2600: The Hacker Quarterly, Autumn 2001

The 2001 volume, whose Autumn issue, headed "Consequences," is the magazine's first after 11 September.

Spring prints "Police Searches of Computers," "The Future of PKI" and "Breaking the Windows Script Encoder," with "The Billboard Liberation Front" and "Declawing Your :CueCat." Summer covers "What is Carnivore, Really?" and "Everything Your Parents Told You About ESS was a Lie," alongside pieces on TCP wrappers, password authentication myths and "Snooping the Stack." Autumn runs "Passport Hacking," "How to Decrypt DirecTV," "Code Red 2" and "The Ultimate DRM Hack." It also carries "Defeating Intrusion Detection Systems," an introduction to ARP spoofing and "Hacking Kodak Picture Maker." Winter adds the security of the Inferno OS, "The Future of Enhanced 911," "Building a Floppy Based Router," "Build a Wooden Computer" and "Examining Student Databases."

The CueCat barcode reader, given away free to magazine subscribers that year, is taken apart here and again in Summer 2004 in "Passwords on a Cue Cat."
