2600: The Hacker Quarterly, July 1987

The fourth and last monthly year, twelve issues that end with 2600 about to become the quarterly it has been ever since.

"TAP: The Legend is Dead" opens the volume with the end of the newsletter 2600 had succeeded. COSMOS gets a guide and a second article, and Telenet, TSPS and equal access get guides of their own. "Hacking PC Pursuit," "More Vax Tricks," "IBM's VM/CMS System" and "Capturing Passwords" carry the systems coverage. The telephone material widens well beyond North America: "Phoning From Europe," "English Dial-it Service," Saudi Arabian and South African BBS lists, and an AT&T submarine cable map. "The Ballad of Captain Crunch" and an interview with Hugo Cornwall fill out the year. "Cellular Fraud," "How Phreaks are Caught" and "FBI Revealed" run alongside "New York Telephone Exposed."

"Computel Put to Sleep" ends the story begun in 1986. From Spring 1988 the newsletter became a digest-sized quarterly magazine, and the monthly sheets of the first four volumes were never resumed.
