Chapter 5
Chapter 5 is the fifth installment in the long-running collaborative book series by Rita Ackermann and Andro Wekua, published by Nieves, Zurich, in 2026, its photocopy-style cover collaging the numerals 2, 3, and 5 so the title reads as Chapter 235.
The Chapter books began after the two artists met in 2002, unfolding as a correspondence in print: part visual diary, part exchange of drawings, collages, and fragments of text that drift between figuration and abstraction. The series moved from a self-published Chapter 1 to Nieves editions of Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 (both 2004), then to Chapter 4 (Fergus McCaffrey and Case Publishing, 2021). This volume returns the series to Nieves as 64 pages of black-and-white offset imagery without text, accumulating impressions of memory and distance rather than resolving into fixed narrative.
Rita Ackermann (b. 1968, Budapest) is a Hungarian-American painter, represented by Hauser & Wirth, whose process-driven canvases layer painting, drawing, and collage. Andro Wekua (b. 1977, Sokhumi, Georgia), represented by Gladstone and Sprüth Magers, works across painting, sculpture, film, and installation, with exhibitions at Kunsthalle Basel, Museo Tamayo, and the Venice Biennale.
