Beautified is artist Tom B. Aicrag's digest-format study of the Mehadrin filter, a content-blocking technology built to censor what employees at certain organizations can view on a browser.
The book compiles undated, unattributed screenshots gathered from unnamed sources, each altered by the filter: skin tones blackened, faces and bodies blocked out entirely, image data replaced with dense black patches. Aicrag sets the politics of the technology aside and instead treats these glitches as found abstraction, presenting the filter's errors and overreaches as a body of accidental images. Published by Open Projects Press in an edition of 100, the book is a small, perfect-bound paperback printed in digital color.
