Swedish Girls: A Tribute

Swedish Girls: A Tribute gathers five years of portraits by photographers Nina Andersson and Louise Enhörning, each working independently to picture young women across Sweden.

Between them, Andersson and Enhörning photographed one hundred women, building a loose collective portrait of what it meant to be young and female in Sweden in the early 2010s rather than following any single subject. Sequenced together without a shared narrative, the pictures accumulate into something closer to a group document than a conventional monograph, arranged across two hundred pages of Swedish-language text. Argent Books published the book in 2014.

Both photographers worked largely outside the gallery system on this project, and Swedish Girls remains their best-known collaboration, an example of portrait photography used as a form of collective record-keeping rather than individual authorship.
