Drone: Unmanned, Architecture and Security Series
Drone is the first volume of Unmanned. Architecture and Security Series, a research and publishing project on architecture's role in building contemporary security regimes.
The book gathers researchers from different disciplines whose work seeks to understand and represent the nature and extent of drone operations. It examines how drone technology, cultural production, surveillance and violence bear on one another, and how these developments affect life in cities. Contributors include Josh Begley, Dan Gettinger, Ruben Pater, Matthew Stadler and Jane Szita, among others. The design is by Numa Merino Studio.
The editors are Ethel Baraona Pohl, Marina Otero Verzier and Malkit Shoshan. The series looks at the civilian appropriation of military technologies and asks design professionals to take positions on their technological, cultural and political effects. Baraona Pohl and Shoshan also convened the Drone Salon at Het Nieuwe Instituut in May 2014, part of the same Unmanned publishing collaboration.
