Untitled Lover Pictures
Untitled Lover Pictures is a hand-assembled zine by Caiti Borruso made from photographs a former partner took of her in bed during their relationship, which she requested back from him after it ended and decided to publish rather than let remain solely in his possession.
Reproduced in black and white on colored stock and hand-titled on the cover, the zine repurposes casual, unposed images made by someone who was not a photographer into a deliberate authored object. Borruso has described the project as motivated by anger at not controlling her own likeness, and by a wish to take back images she felt entitled to determine the fate of.
Borruso (b. 1993) is a Brooklyn-based photographer and writer who studied at Image Text Ithaca; her self-published books and zines, including Under the Dog Star, Whale Creek is Flooding, and Putting the Dog to Sleep, work in the same vein of small-run, personal, image-text publishing that interrogates authorship, intimacy, and control over one's own image.
