Briner Hauser
Briner Hauser puts the black-and-white photographs of Timothy Briner and Thomas Hauser into one sequence, where the subject that emerges is the relation between form and sexuality rather than either photographer's project.
The book belongs to Series 1, S U N's experimental run of two-artist titles issued in editions of 100. Briner's contribution is abstract and non-narrative, drawn from three years of work; Hauser's spans a decade, setting 2004 pictures that deal with fetish and taboo against images from 2013 and 2014 in which the sexual material is handled more systematically. Neither photographer is credited page by page, so the pairing has to be read as a single run of 88 pages. Printed digital offset and Japanese stab bound in a woven soft cover.
Briner is an American photographer whose projects include Boonville, made across six American towns of that name, along with Verrazano and the Construction Paper Book. S U N, founded in New York in 2014 by Bill Sullivan, publishes small-edition photographic books, several of them collaborations of exactly this kind.
