Scarti is a book of printers' waste: the twice-printed sheets left over from the press run of Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin's earlier book Ghetto, presented as pictures in their own right.

Trolley Books published it in December 2013 as a 64-page hardback with 28 color illustrations, in an edition of 1,250. Ghetto, which Trolley issued ten years earlier, documented twelve contemporary gated communities, from a maximum-security prison in South Africa to a psychiatric hospital in Cuba. Scarti di avviamento is the technical term for the paper fed through a press to clean the ink between runs, and it is normally thrown out. The publisher Gigi Giannuzzi had kept the sheets from the Ghetto printing, and a box of them was found after his death in December 2012. Because every sheet was printed twice, images from different places overlap by accident. In one, the arm of a South African prisoner drops into a scene of young Tanzanian refugees sitting in a tree.

Broomberg (born Johannesburg, 1970) and Chanarin (born London, 1971) are artists working between London and Berlin. Trolley also published their earlier books Ghetto (2003) and Mr. Mkhize's Portrait (2004). They won the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2013 for War Primer 2 and the ICP Infinity Award in 2014 for Holy Bible.
