The New Sins / Los Nuevos Pecados
A bilingual book by David Byrne that looks at the qualities contemporary life treats as sinful, in his own text and photographs, bound back to back in English and Spanish.
The book carries about eighty colour photographs taken by Byrne. A centrefold diagram appears on both sides, titled The Inferno in the English half and El Infierno in the Spanish half, and several translators worked on the versions. It was commissioned for the Valencia Bienal in spring 2001. The McSweeney's hardcover is bound in red boards and wrapped in a gold band.
Byrne was born in Dumbarton, Scotland, in 1952 and co-founded Talking Heads in 1975. Since the 1990s he has also worked in photography, drawing, installation and design. His books include Strange Ritual (1995), Your Action World (1998), Envisioning Emotional Epistemological Information (2003), Arboretum (2006), Bicycle Diaries (2009) and How Music Works (2012). His installations include Everything is Connected (2002) at Saks Fifth Avenue and Playing the Building (2005 to 2009).
