Show Caller

by TAlia Chetrit
MACK · 2019

Showcaller collects Talia Chetrit's photographs made between 1994 and 2018 in a single volume, and accompanied her 2018 exhibition of the same name at the Kölnischer Kunstverein in Cologne.

MACK describes it as the first book on her work. The book mixes family portraits, pictures of teenage friends, self-portraits, staged murder scenes, still lifes and street photographs, and it shuffles them together rather than sorting by subject. The earliest were made when Chetrit was a teenager. A showcaller is a theatrical term, and MACK ties the title to the performance in her work and to the power between photographer, subject and audience. It appeared in January 2019 as a 138-page paperback with flaps, 29 x 22 cm.

Chetrit was born in Washington, DC, in 1982 and lives and works in New York. She received a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004 and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008. Her work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Jewish Museum in New York and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, among others.
