Money

Money is the first joint artist's book by Tania Prill, Alberto Vieceli, and Sebastian Cremers, the Zurich design studio Prill Vieceli Cremers, built entirely from the pictures printed on the world's banknotes.

Across 256 pages and 300 color images, the book collects and compares the political subject matter, historical milestones, distinguished figures, status symbols, and landscapes that appear on paper currency, treating banknotes as mini-posters proclaiming an idealized world. It traces recurring visual patterns, such as the Euro's bridges standing for a united Europe, or the pathos formulae used again and again to depict strong, happy, laboring figures with access to education, arguing that monetary iconography functions as a form of visual propaganda that imprints value on otherwise worthless paper.

Prill Vieceli Cremers has designed numerous books for Edition Patrick Frey since 2006; Money, published by the same house, extends the studio's design practice into an authored, research-driven artist's book on the visual language of the state.
