Arc

The debut book of the Melbourne artist Zoë Croggon, whose photographic collages set the human body against the geometry of modernist architecture, and the winner of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Photobook Prize.

Croggon works with found images drawn from the histories of modernist and minimalist architecture, dance, gymnastics and athletics. Each collage is made with the fewest possible cuts: a torso meets a concrete plane, a limb continues the line of a stair. The pairings are formal rather than narrative, and the book keeps that economy, giving each work a full page on white. Eighty pages, softcover with flaps, in an edition of 500, published as Perimeter Editions 007 in September 2015 and co-published with the Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive, Melbourne.

Croggon is represented by Daine Singer, Melbourne, and has exhibited widely in Australia. Arc established the vocabulary she has continued in later work, including the 2024 Perimeter title How to Cut an Orange, where the same cut-and-abut method is applied to a wider range of source material.
