L'amoureuse

by De Galas
Le Caillou bleu · 2013

L’Amoureuse is Anne De Gelas’s book of grief after the death of her partner, made from pages of her diary, photographs and sketches.

Le Caillou Bleu published it in Brussels in 2013 as a 96-page hardcover. Chladek Books lists it as numbered and signed, in an edition of 600. The photographs include self-portraits, portraits of her son and still lifes. In her introductory text De Gelas writes that T., her lover and the father of her son, died on 5 April 2010 of a stroke, next to them on a North Sea beach. She turned to the diary she had kept for more than ten years and wrote in it about her suffering and about the surplus of life that welled up in her.

De Gelas is a Brussels-based photographer, and her Éditions Loco biography places her pictures within diaries, travel notebooks and artist’s books, next to text, drawings and fragmentary archives. Loco, which published her book Mère et fils in 2018, has reissued L’Amoureuse and calls the 2013 edition unobtainable since.
