Image Factories: Infographics 1920–1945
The book examines the infographics of Fritz Kahn and Otto Neurath, two figures who worked on the visual presentation of information in the decades between the wars.
It accompanies Transformer: On Infographics as Media of Modernity, shown at the German Museum of Books and Writing in the German National Library, Leipzig, from 8 September 2017 to 7 January 2018. Historical material and imagery from 1920 to 1945 appear alongside contemporary infographics, with essays by Stephanie Jacobs, Patrick Rössler, Helena Doudova and Bernd Stiegler, and a text by Neurath. It has 176 pages with 80 black-and-white and 40 colour illustrations, thread-sewn, in English, designed by Kay Bachmann.
Helena Doudova, Stephanie Jacobs and Patrick Rössler edited the volume. Spector Books also issued a German edition, Bildfabriken: Infografik 1920–1945, and lists this English edition as out of print.
