End. by Eamonn Doyle

End.

by Eamonn Doyle
Eamonn Doyle (self-published) · 2016 · Hardcover

End. completes the trilogy of self-published books Eamonn Doyle made about Dublin's inner city, following i (2014) and On (2015).

Working around the same stretch of O'Connell Street that runs through the earlier volumes, Doyle photographs its everyday crowds, in cropped, high-contrast frames that pull figures out of the flow of the street and turn them into something closer to portrait or apparition. As with the previous two books, the design (by Niall Sweeney's studio Design Action) and sequencing favour repetition and rhythm over documentary narrative. Exact pagination and format for the copy on this shelf could not be independently confirmed this session.

Doyle (born 1969, Dublin) worked for years as a DJ and record label owner before turning to photography, and the trilogy's episodic, almost musical structure carries some of that background. The three books were later brought together and re-edited as the exhibition and book Made in Dublin.
