Carroll Dunham: Studio on Another Planet
Carroll Dunham's most recent body of work, made between 2022 and 2026, follows an invented sculptor on a voyage to another planet, and this monograph collects it in full.
The book reproduces 24 paintings, 46 drawings and 5 monotypes in color across 112 pages. The series treats the journey as a search for self-knowledge, with the sculptor's figure and a strange landscape as recurring subjects. Two new texts accompany the plates: a critical essay by the writer Naomi Fry and a conversation with the artist Matthew Ritchie. Joseph Logan Studio designed the hardcover for Gregory R. Miller & Co.
Dunham (b. 1949) has worked across painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture for more than five decades. His pictures join human anatomy, landscape and abstract form, often to surreal effect, in a style built on heavy black outlines, saturated color and charged settings, with sources in art history and popular culture alike. The library also holds Carroll Dunham: Drawings 1974–2024 from the Art Institute of Chicago and In the Flowers, The Beach from Karma and Galerie Eva Presenhuber.
