ESP Cultural Magazine, Issue 2: The Glitch in the Art System
The second issue of a Tokyo-based, English-language culture magazine, built around the theme The Glitch in the Art System.
The issue takes Legacy Russell's account of the glitch as a systemic failure that can drive change, and applies it to the art world: gaps in representation, imbalances of power and questions of ownership. It runs 144 pages of interviews and essays by more than thirty contributors, among them Marina Abramović, Olafur Eliasson, Michael Xufu Huang and Jacques Attali. A Sources section collects recommendations from eighteen cities, and a 34-page review section closes the issue. The cover reads April 2021.
The magazine is published by Esperanto Media LLC with Masanobu Sugatsuke as editor-in-chief and Hans Ulrich Obrist as editorial advisor. Art direction is by Experimental Jetset. Issue 2 is where the title changed from Esperanto Culture Magazine to ESP Cultural Magazine, and the cover prints both names.
