FAILE: Prints + Originals 1999–2009

by FAILE
Gestalten · 2010 · Hardcover

The first comprehensive collection of FAILE's works on paper, gathering a decade of screenprints, stencils and collaged originals by the Brooklyn duo from their street beginnings in 1999 to 2009.

Published by Gestalten in 2010, the book reproduces at full page the prints and unique works through which Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller built their visual language: pulp-novel covers, comic panels, advertising type and wheat-paste fragments recombined in layered, over-printed compositions that carry the wear of the wall into the print shop. A closing reference section reproduces in thumbnail the complete works on paper the duo released through their website between March 2006 and May 2010, making the volume a working catalogue of their editions. Text by Matt Barber accompanies the plates.

FAILE began as a street-art collaboration in New York and by 2010 had shown with Lazarides in London and in institutional contexts while continuing to paste work in cities worldwide. This was the first of three Gestalten volumes on the duo, followed by FAILE Temple (2012) and FAILE: Works on Wood (2014).
