Pools
Pools is a book of black-and-white photographs by Craig Fineman of a late-1970s pool skating session, published in 2013 by Dashwood Books together with Stüssy.
This first edition is a 64-page hardcover in an edition of 1,000 copies. Fineman left his archive in the care of his lifelong friend Duncan Campbell, and the book came out of a collaboration between Campbell and Jules Gayton. The publishers say they gave each photograph its own treatment on the page, so that the book conveys the gravity of what is happening as well as the easy flow of the movement. Stüssy also printed T-shirts with Fineman's photographs to go with the book. Dashwood issued a softcover second edition in 2014.
Fineman is described as a photographer of the late-1970s surfing and skateboarding scene who paid attention to the overall look of a photograph. His angles and compositions carry an almost architectural feel. Dashwood notes that he has died and calls the collection a small sliver of skateboarding's history.
