Now Here Then by Huger Foote

Now Here Then

by Huger Foote
Dashwood Books · 2015 · Hardcover

Now Here Then collects photographs Huger Foote made over years of travel and daily life, prints whose stains, tears and scorch marks became part of the finished work, a book about the passage of time as much as about the pictures in it.

The images were shot around the world, then archived and re-edited over several years as Foote worked back through boxes of prints, sorting and resorting them until a sequence emerged. Some prints were damaged in that process, and Foote kept the damage rather than replacing it, letting stained and scorched surfaces stand alongside the photographs. Dashwood Books published the result in 2015 as a signed hardcover edition of 1,000 copies, designed by Hans Seeger with texts by Glenn O'Brien and Susan Minot.

Foote was born in 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee, and has held solo exhibitions in London, New York, Paris and his hometown. Now Here Then is his second monograph, following My Friend from Memphis (Booth-Clibborn Editions, 2001), and extends his loose, diaristic approach to color photography across a wider span of years and places.
