Screen
Screen is an artist's book by the French artist Arthur Fouray that pairs a small printed volume with painted and screenprinted cushions, so that the book is one part of a multimedia work.
Tombolo Presses published it in Nevers in May 2017, in English, at 104 pages and 11 × 18 cm, printed in black toner and set in Franklin Gothic. The credits list 21 screenprints made at DOC! Paris. The book is a point of entry into research Fouray began with his 2015 solo show Spectre at Espace Quark in Geneva. Through the history of art and decoration it follows the shift from painting before the industrial revolution to the cinematographic experience. The first issue was 500 copies.
Fouray was born in Paris in 1990 and studied fine arts at ECAL. His 2017 exhibition 2080 (MMLXXX) at ZQM in Berlin followed the same line of work. He is archivist and curator at LUMA Arles.
