Two-Frame Films
Two-Frame Films (2006–2012) is a book of photographs by the Scottish artist and filmmaker Luke Fowler, made with a half-frame camera that prints two exposures side by side on each 35 mm frame.
Every frame holds a pair of pictures. Some were taken a moment apart and others at a longer remove, and the reader decides how each pair connects as an event. Fowler used a range of film stocks, subjects and framings, and the publisher ties the series to his films through montage, color and reflectivity. MACK published it in October 2014 as a 160-page hardback bound in debossed linen. Texts are by Harvie Ferguson, a sociology professor at the University of Glasgow, and by a Japanese artist who has often worked with Fowler.
Fowler’s films are collages that draw on the British Free Cinema of the 1950s as well as on documentary. In 2012 he was nominated for the Turner Prize for a film about the Scottish psychiatrist R. D. Laing.
