Penelope's Hungry Eyes by Abe Frajndlich

Penelope's Hungry Eyes

by Abe Frajndlich
Schirmer/Mosel · 2011 · Hardback

Penelope's Hungry Eyes gathers Abe Frajndlich's portraits of fellow photographers, a project he built over four decades of visiting peers in their studios and homes.

The book pairs Frajndlich's images with text by the art historian Henry Adams, and returns to a subject Frajndlich has kept coming back to since the 1970s: the working photographer photographed by one of their own, off the far side of the lens rather than posed for an author photo. Schirmer/Mosel published this hardcover edition in 2011.

Frajndlich studied with Minor White at MIT in the early 1970s, an apprenticeship he later documented in his own book on White, and has spent much of his career photographing the photography world itself. Penelope's Hungry Eyes is one of several extended series of photographer portraits he has produced over the decades.
