58 Hips
58 Hips is a photobook by Meisa Fujishiro of the bottoms of 58 people, published by Shodensha in April 2001.
A Japanese auction listing that quotes the book’s promotional copy calls it a possible world first, asks how Japan’s bottoms look, and says the 58 people include photographs not shown before. The National Diet Library records a single unpaginated volume. Japanese Wikipedia lists Milky Hips and 100 Hips, also from Shodensha, alongside it, and a Milky Hips exhibition at Rocket Gallery in Aoyama was reported in March 2003.
Fujishiro was born in 1967 and went freelance in 1990. He spent 1995 to 1997 traveling around the world, then worked in fashion, music and advertising. He went on to photograph many idols and actresses, and Japanese Wikipedia counts about 80 photobooks. In 2003 he won the photography prize of the Kodansha Publishing Culture Award for the Shinchosha Mook monthly series. In 2016 he returned to creative work with Sketches of Tokyo, black-and-white nudes photographed in a Tokyo high-rise hotel.
