Neü Sex
Neü Sex (2010) is a photography monograph by the actor and adult-film performer Sasha Grey, published by Vice and distributed by powerHouse Books.
The book gathers around 150 color photographs taken during Grey's work in the adult film industry. Most were shot by Grey herself, with additional images by the photographer Ian P. Cinnamon. Grey has described the project as self-documentation rather than a professional portfolio: a way of recording film sets and the private moments around them on her own terms. She has cited Cindy Sherman and Nan Goldin as reference points for that kind of image-making. The hardcover volume runs 192 pages at 6.7 x 9 inches.
Grey was born in 1988 in Sacramento, California. She worked in adult film from 2006, then moved into mainstream acting, including a lead role in Steven Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience (2009). She has since worked as a musician, DJ, and novelist, writing The Juliette Society trilogy. Neü Sex is her only photography book. It stands apart from that later work as a record made from inside the industry she was documenting, not about it from the outside.
