Grit
Spector Books
· 2015
Grit is Grit Hachmeister’s first monograph, gathering drawings, self-portraits, visual narratives and staged photographs from about ten years of work, with a humorous and critical eye on gender.
Spector Books published it in Leipzig in February 2015 as a 180-page thread-sewn brochure with gatefolds and 33 black-and-white and 135 colour illustrations. Kay Bachmann designed it, and the text is in English and German.
Spector’s text points to a series of pictures of people wearing nothing but shoes in various sexual situations, and to Hachmeister’s 2007 photograph re-creating a pose from a 1970s image of Jane Birkin leaning against a door with a cigarette in hand.
