Polaroids

Polaroids collects instant photographs François Halard has taken over the course of his career shooting interiors and artists' homes for magazines such as Vogue and AD.

Rougher and more immediate than the large-format editorial work he is known for, the Polaroids function as private notes: quick studies of light, colour and detail made on location, later kept as a personal archive rather than published assignments. The Name Books, a Zurich imprint devoted to photographers' informal and archival work, issued this 60-page hardcover selection in 2016.

Halard (born 1961, Paris) has spent four decades photographing the homes and studios of artists, designers and writers, from Cy Twombly and Nathalie du Pasquier to his own family's house in Arles. The Polaroids sit alongside that larger body of interiors photography as a looser, more diaristic counterpart.
