Belligerent
Belligerent is a 2017 Ivorypress commission from Jenny Holzer: a box of seven posters drawn from redacted reports on the abuse of detainees in American military prisons.
Rizzoli’s listing calls it the latest in an ongoing series of Ivorypress commissions. It is not a bound book. The box closes with a magnet, and inside are seven works that unfold into posters of 60 x 79 cm, which can stay in the box or be framed.
Holzer was born in 1950. Her first public works were the Truisms of 1977–79, anonymous broadsheets wheat-pasted to buildings, walls and fences in and around Manhattan. Wikipedia notes that her work has centred on government documents about Iraq and the Middle East since 2010. It lists the Redaction Paintings (2008), which reproduce declassified memos with much of the text blacked out.
