Peter Hujar Curated by Elton John presents a fifty-image survey of Hujar's photographic career as selected by the musician and longtime photography collector.

Spanning nearly two decades of work, the selection draws together portraits of Hujar's eclectic downtown New York circle, his landmark male nudes, atmospheric landscapes, and portraits of performers including Stevie Wonder, Peggy Lee, and Edgar Winter, alongside a moving image of the artist with his mother.

In his introduction, John reflects on the photographer's distinctive vision: "Hujar's humanity, depth and sensual insights aren't for everyone, and don't need to be, but once his pictures get into your bloodstream they are impossible to shake." Published by Fraenkel Gallery on the occasion of the 2022 exhibition of the same name, the book pairs a legendary collector's eye with a photographer whose mastery has only grown more widely recognized in the decades since his 1987 death.
