The Art of Rebellion: World of Streetart

The first volume of The Art of Rebellion, the series edited by Munich designer and writer Christian Hundertmark (C100), and one of the earliest books devoted to street art as distinct from letter-based graffiti.

Published by Publikat, the house behind the graffiti magazine Stylefile, the book presents around 130 artists from Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas working with stickers, posters, stencils, sculptural pieces and hybrids in between. Space Invader, Above, Lefunk, Milk, Fume, Hoernchen and East Eric are among those shown, each documented with photographs, quotes and short interviews, with a foreword by D*Face. The compact hardcover was issued with a sheet of 50 stickers and an audio CD of thirteen tracks mixed by Florian Keller of Compost Records; the cover, a photograph of a Munich traffic signal marked "place your stickers here, please," invites the reader to join in.

Hundertmark began painting graffiti in 1989 and turned to street art in 2000; he runs the Munich studio C100 Purple Haze, working for clients in sports and music. The series continued with The Art of Rebellion 2 (2006), 3 (2010) and 4 (2016) and became one of the most widely circulated street-art surveys.
