White Stripes Print Set

by Rob Jones
Publisher Unknown · 2005

This is a group of screen-printed concert posters Rob Jones designed for the White Stripes during the band's 2005 tour behind Get Behind Me Satan. They are kept together here as a set rather than issued as a single publication.

The set includes a run for the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, August 29-30 with the Greenhornes and August 31 with Brendan Benson, built around an image of the Hotel Yorba. A Minneapolis date with the Greenhornes is rendered as a solarized red portrait of a woman holding a glass heart. A Greek Theatre, Berkeley show with Autolux is illustrated as flamingo-legged alien walkers striding over a London skyline. A Glass House, Pomona date is built around an image of Meg White drumming on a peppermint-striped drumhead. Several smaller card-format prints round out the set, in Jones' recurring red, black and white palette, including a devil-and-bishop icon and a circular motif of three girls, along with a printed business card for the artist.

Jones is a screenprinter and illustrator whose gig-poster work for the White Stripes, produced through the mid-2000s, became closely associated with the band's own black, white and red visual identity. His posters circulate through the same limited-edition, hand-pulled screenprint market as other rock-poster artists of that period, sold and traded independently of the touring merchandise they advertised.
