Photographs brings together Karen Kilimnik’s photographic work, which she has shown only occasionally, in a 252-page hardcover with 251 color images.

Edition Patrick Frey published it as the fourth artist’s book it has made with Kilimnik, after Drawings (1997), Paintings (2001) and Kirschgarten (2005). Hanna Williamson-Koller designed it. Frey’s account of the book describes English countryside idylls, garden trees trimmed with glass ornaments and fairy lights, vials, bone china and roses arranged on silk, and ballet scenes that include her own scenery for Psyché at the Paris Opera. It also notes that she keeps returning to photographs of details from her own paintings, so several motifs pass between the two mediums.

Kilimnik was born in 1955 and is based in Philadelphia, where she grew up. She became known in the 1980s for her “scatter art” installations and later for her paintings.
