Blank Spot Cartography
Blank Spot Cartography is a lexicon by the Zurich artist Sandra Kühne, built from 80 terms and definitions around the unmapped, the missing and the imagined in maps.
Kodoji Press published it in Baden in 2014 as a softcover with dust jacket, 128 pages at 11 × 17.5 cm, with 20 black and white plates. The entries run alphabetically and include Atlantis, cartographic void, choropleth map, fiction, fragment map and navigation hazard. A German edition, Weisse Flecken Kartographie, appeared separately, along with a signed and numbered collector's edition of 20 framed sets with bookmarks.
Kühne was born in Windhoek, Namibia, in 1976 and lives and works in Zurich. She holds an MA in Fine Arts from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Her other publications include the exhibition catalogues It is all in the detail (2013) and Final Cut (Kerber, 2014).
