Selective Memory Series
Selective Memory Series collects one of the two ongoing photographic projects Helmut Lang has kept running since he left fashion, published here as his contribution to Purple's Purple Books series.
Lang closed his own fashion house in 2005, sold the brand, and moved to a practice split between New York City and Long Island, working in sculpture and photography. Selective Memory Series and its companion project, Long Island Diaries, have appeared in excerpts across Purple, BUTT Magazine, Visionaire, and The Travel Almanac rather than as a single fixed book, so each publication is effectively its own edit of an open-ended body of images. This edition runs to roughly 60 pages in a quarto format, softcover, printed in English.
The library's copy is catalogued as Purple Book #6, one of a run of small artist volumes the magazine issued as inserts alongside its regular editions, a series that also includes Harmony Korine's Pigxtras.
