Name, Thing, Thing: A Primer in Parallel Typographies
A small hardcover from Printed Matter that treats typography as a field of cultural remapping.
The book compiles thoughts, quotations and fragments in three parts. The first, Letters Are Things, is a performative text drawing on design criticism and cultural history. It works through numbered and lettered sections toward a method that resists typography's homogenization of language and form. Things borrows images from books, artifacts and artworks to find an expressive language of gesture, posture and facial expression. A final section, Things Cited, credits the images and text.
Gerardo Madera is the credited author. Printed Matter issued the book in 2018 in an edition of 1,000 copies, 176 pages, bound in a faux-leather wrap with foil stamping.
