White Trash Uncut by Christopher Makos

White Trash Uncut

by Christopher Makos
ii · 2014 · Hardcover

White Trash Uncut restores and expands Christopher Makos's early photographs of American subculture, presenting a fuller edit of images he first published, more conservatively edited, in 1977.

Published by Glitterati in 2014 with text by Andrew Crispo, the book gathers Makos's black-and-white studies of bikers, punks, and outsiders shot in the 1970s, made during the same period he was photographing Andy Warhol's circle at the Factory. The original edition, titled simply "White Trash," was issued by Stonehill Publishing in 1977; this later edition restores material left out of that printing.

Makos (b. 1948) became known as one of Warhol's closest photographic collaborators, documenting the artist's daily life through the 1970s and 80s and working alongside him on several books, including Warhol's own "Andy Warhol's Exposures." His street and portrait work moves between fine-art photography and pop-cultural document.
