Local Time
Local Time is a coil-bound monograph by Jessica Mallios. The Center for Ongoing Research & Projects in Columbus, Ohio, published it in 2015 alongside her solo exhibition of the same name.
The project was inspired by a recent trip to Dubai, and the book gathers photographs taken at the top of the Burj Khalifa. Mallios says in her statement that light, sand, glass and heat there blurred her eyesight. She reads glass architecture as a reference to the camera, a barrier we look through and look at in the same moment. The 118 pages are color laser prints interleaved with multicolored vellum, arranged differently in every copy. The edition is 125 copies, all unique. The exhibition ran from May 2 to 31, 2015.
Her website says she was born in Austin, Texas, and lives in San Marcos, where she is an associate professor at Texas State University. She holds an MFA from Bard College and a BFA from Pratt Institute, and she is a founding member of the Austin collective Lakes Were Rivers. Her exhibitions include Artpace San Antonio, Disjecta in Portland, Higher Pictures in New York and The Contemporary Austin.
