Dr. Makumakuran and Other Stories
Dr. Makumakuran and Other Stories is an English-language collection of bara manga by the Japanese artist Takeshi Matsu, published in 2015 in Bruno Gmünder's Gay Manga series.
The book gathers a science-fiction title story and four further stories in black and white, translated by Anne Ishii and closed by an afterword from the artist. It keeps the original right-to-left reading order. Gengoroh Tagame, quoted in the publisher's listing, describes Matsu's men as the kind we know or wish we did, having playful sex with emotional depth.
Matsu was born in 1973. He began in mainstream shonen manga and moved to gay manga around age thirty, working first for the magazine Kinnuku-Otoko. His stories favour cheerful, consensual encounters over the BDSM themes common among his peers. He appeared in Fantagraphics' 2014 anthology Massive, and this book followed his earlier Gmünder collection More and More of You and Other Stories.
