Robber Queen's Favorites
Robber Queen's Favorites reprints, in full color, every photograph a single Flickr user favorited under the handle Robber Queen, organized by subject from the mundane to the violent.
Nathaniel Matthews compiled the book from one person's accumulated "favorites," the images a Flickr account marks rather than posts, treating that quieter layer of activity as a kind of self-portrait. The range runs wide, banal snapshots alongside darker and more violent material, with no editorializing beyond the sequence itself; a digital identity, the book suggests, is built as much from what an account favorites or stars as from what it posts. Matthews produced the book through 8 Ball Zines, part of the 8-Ball Community collective built around the zine fairs run out of Grand Billiards in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Matthews is a Brooklyn-based artist whose practice draws on self-publishing and zine subcultures; his other publications include The Count's Lounge and The Players.
