Anna Konda
Anna Konda is Katarzyna Mazur's photobook about the Female Fight Club Berlin, a private women's wrestling club, published by dienacht Publishing in 2015 in an edition of 200.
The publisher says the fighters Anna Konda and Red Devil founded the club in 2010 to revive the female wrestling that was popular in Berlin in the Golden Twenties. Matches now take place in a rented room in Marzahn. The club admits women of any age and weight, and its fights have no official rules, no standard categories and no required style. Mazur writes that in her research she met women who worship their bodies. For some it is a statement about the modern perception of women, for some proof that femininity and strength go together, and for some a way to be seen and desired. The 48-page book is offset printed in white and black on pale flesh-colored paper, held closed by an elastic strap, with blind embossing on the cover.
Mazur is a Polish visual artist based in Berlin. Her website says her work is often set in body-related spaces and concerns representations of the body, gender attributions and the power relations between them, mostly through long-term photo projects. It also says Anna Konda was nominated for the Aperture PhotoBook Award at Paris Photo.
