Colour / Monochrome
Monochrome and Colour pairs two strands of Mary McCartney's portrait and documentary photography, issued as a two-volume set that separates her black-and-white work from her color images rather than mixing them into a single sequence.
Published by Gost Books in 2015, the set draws on McCartney's work across music, fashion, and family life, including portraits of musicians and artists alongside more private, unposed images. Splitting the material by palette rather than by subject or chronology foregrounds how differently the two modes register mood and intimacy in her photographs.
McCartney (b. 1969) has worked as a photographer since the 1990s, publishing several books of portraiture and reportage and contributing regularly to magazines including Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. She is also a documentary filmmaker and, more recently, a cookbook author; her photographic work frequently returns to family, food, and the working lives of other artists and musicians.
