Identity Zine #1 is a self-published photo zine of portraits by Los Angeles photographer Dave Naz, documenting people across the transgender and genderqueer spectrum. The project grew out of an earlier book, Genderqueer: And Other Gender Identities, using images Naz shot for that project but didn't include, and it developed into an ongoing series of zines pairing portraits with subjects' own words. A later issue, Identity Zine #2, ran to 60 pages in black-and-white offset in an edition of 300, hand-stamped, and included essays such as "Loving a Trans Person" and "The Gender Inspector" alongside portraits of named subjects from the community. Naz's zine work eventually formed the basis of a full-length book, Identity: In & Beyond the Binary, published in 2017.
