"Tony Oursler: Dispositivos" is the catalogue for a touring survey of Oursler's video-based sculpture and installation work. The exhibition was co-organized by the Jeu de Paume in Paris, Domus Artium 2002 in Salamanca, and the Helsinki City Art Museum.
Published in 2005 to accompany the exhibition's stops in Salamanca and Paris, the 172-page bilingual English/Spanish volume documents the sculptural video installations - talking, projected faces on distorted fabric and foam forms - that Oursler developed from the late 1990s on, alongside earlier work exploring similar ideas about media, surveillance, and the body.
Oursler (b. 1957, New York) emerged in the late 1970s from a milieu overlapping with Mike Kelley and CalArts, initially working in video and performance before developing his signature technique of projecting video faces onto sculpted forms in the 1990s. "Dispositivos" surveys that body of work at a moment when it had moved from experimental installation into major museum collections internationally.
