Digital Art by Christiane Paul

Digital Art

by Christiane Paul
Thames & Hudson · 2015 · Paperback

A standard survey of digital art from the 1980s onward, in the compact World of Art series, by a curator of new media.

The third edition, revised and expanded, appeared from Thames & Hudson in 2015 as a 272-page paperback with 338 illustrations. It adds recent developments in location-based media, interactive installations, augmented and mixed reality, and tablet technologies. Themes run through the chapters: viewer interaction, artificial intelligence, activism, networks and telepresence. The book also looks at how digital techniques have affected older art forms, and treats internet art, software art, digital installation and virtual reality as established practices.

Christiane Paul is Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art and is known internationally for curating and teaching new media art. The book is a general history of the field, written for students and readers new to it. Earlier editions exist: the second edition carries ISBN 9780500203989.
