Gröna Lund

Gröna Lund is a new edition of Anders Petersen's debut book, revisiting the photographs he made in the early 1970s at Stockholm's Gröna Lund amusement park, one of the oldest in Sweden.

First published in 1973 by Fyra Förläggare as Gröna Lund: om människor på ett nöjesfält, with text by Jan Stolpe, the project shares its enclosed, crowd-filled setting with Petersen's celebrated Café Lehmitz. This edition reworks the original sequence, favoring a more intense, melancholy selection of images over the fairground's built-in euphoria. The result is a rougher, more urgent extension of the visual language Petersen had begun to develop.

Petersen studied under Christer Strömholm at his School of Photography in Stockholm before turning his camera on Hamburg's Café Lehmitz in the late 1960s, work that established him as one of Europe's most influential documentary photographers. Gröna Lund stands as the origin point of that practice, made before Lehmitz but published here in a form shaped by everything that followed.
