The Exquisite Self Portraits Photoshoot
"The Exquisite Self Portraits Photoshoot" collects Rob Pruitt's self-portrait photographs, published by the Brussels imprint Triangle Books in 2015 as a small, focused catalogue of a single ongoing subject. That subject is the artist photographing himself.
At 43 pages, the book stays narrowly on that one recurring exercise rather than surveying Pruitt's much broader output in painting, installation, and sculpture, treating self-portraiture as its own body of work worth isolating and publishing on its own terms.
Pruitt (b. 1964) is an American post-conceptual artist who has never settled into a single style or medium, moving between panda paintings, glitter canvases, flea-market-style installations, and awards-show parodies over a career he describes as intensely personal and biographical; the Aspen Art Museum gave him a mid-career retrospective in 2013. "The Exquisite Self Portraits Photoshoot" turns that same restless, self-referential sensibility onto the most direct subject available: himself.
