Full Moon
"Full Moon" is Katja Rahlwes's contribution to the Purple Books series, the small photographic volumes Purple Fashion Magazine packages with its numbered issues, shipped here as Purple Book #15 alongside Issue 16 (Vol. III, Fall/Winter 2011/2012).
Like the other Purple Books, it is a compact, single-photographer companion piece to the magazine rather than a standalone commercial monograph, produced through Olivier Zahm's Purple Institute in Paris. Purple Books carry their own sequential numbering, separate from the magazine issue they accompany.
Rahlwes (b. 1967, Frankfurt) moved to Paris in 1987 to study fashion design and worked through the 1990s as a stylist. From 1998 to 2001, she also served as chief fashion editor and photo editor at BIBA. She met Purple co-founders Elein Fleiss and Olivier Zahm in 1996 and has shot for the magazine ever since, turning fully to photography around 2003. Her work has since run in Vogue Paris, Self Service, Interview, and i-D, and in campaigns for Gucci, Celine, and Maison Martin Margiela, alongside earlier books "Purple Anthology" (Rizzoli, 2008) and "Butt Book" (Taschen, 2006).
