Born Emmanuel Radnitzky in Philadelphia, Man Ray moved to Paris in 1921 and became a central figure of Dada and Surrealism, working across painting, film, sculpture, and object-making as fluently as photography, and photographing the Parisian avant-garde—Duchamp, Breton, Kiki de Montparnasse—along the way.
