Mind Machines
Vintage mechanical imagery collides with hand-cut typography in Mind Machines, the German collage artist Sabine Remy's entry in Redfoxpress's C'est mon Dada series, its cover built around blueprint-style renderings of viewing apparatuses under a hand-lettered title.
Issued in January 2020 as volume 140, the 40-page hardcover follows the series' standard A6 format (10.5 × 15 cm), thread-and-quarter-cloth bound and laser-printed on ivory paper. Remy assembles her collages from salvaged books and printed ephemera dating largely from the 1950s and earlier, pairing technical diagrams with fragments of vintage advertising and instructional graphics.
Remy is a German analogue collage artist who has kept the blog Miriskum.de since 2012, posting over a thousand works and building an international network of collaborators. She favors old paper "because they are often a little bizarre ... full of lived life," summarizing her method as "I cut, therefore I am." Her work has appeared in Collage &ndash Contemporary European Perspectives at the Neue Sächsische Galerie, Chemnitz, and the Retroavangarda anthology Modern Collage.
